#9 of 14 in Nature in Yosemite National Park
Enjoy magnificent 360-degree views of Yosemite Valley from Taft Point, a glacier observation point. Take a relatively easy hike to reach the vantage point; the short trek leads through the woods but involves a great deal of elevation change, amounting to 60 m (200 ft). Standing at 2,285 m (7,500 ft), the point offers dramatic vistas of Yosemite Falls and the valley walls. Parking is available 2.5 km (1.6 mi) from the point. • The views from Taft point are amazing, but watch your step! We were at the trail head early morning midweek and a few other cars were already there. It was cold, but an easy hike out to the point, whi...  more »
  • This trail begins at the trailhead parking on the glacier road and is approximately 2.2 miles long and can be very good with the Sentinel Dome, also about 2.4 miles combined, where the last piece to the Sentinel Dome is somewhat steeper. The trail goes through the Sentinel Creek and partly through forest, but in the end you are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Taft point, a rocky outcrop in the Yosemite Valley.

  • An easy 15-20 minute hike with pano views that will calm your soul and ledge views that will stop your heart. Amazing area all around but can be dangerous if you're not careful, definitely keep the little ones on a short leash near the ledges.
  • It was a very easy trail, with breathe taking views and plenty of room to take unique photos to impress your friends and family
  • Very nice Outlook with a great view of the valley. The hike to reach the point is not strenuous, but very pleasant(Summer).
  • Probably the best spot in the park. A little bit of a hike to get to it which is harder on the way back but it's more than worth it. Wish I lived closer to this majestic park.
  • This place is certainly not for the faint hearted. When you walk up to the edge and peek down it will take your breath away. It's a 3000 foot drop right in front of you. Yosemite Valley from above. On the other side is El Capitan. To your right are the Lower and Upper Yosemite Falls. This is a great spot for a longer break before you continue on Pohono Trail or head back.

Where to stay in Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park offers something for everyone. Choose from upscale or historic hotels, a well-appointed lodge, motel rooms, rustic cabins, canvas tent cabins, and developed campgrounds. Yosemite Village in the heart of the valley is the most convenient place to stay, but other accommodations line the roads leading to the village. If you can't secure a place inside the park, try the various lodges, inns, bed and breakfasts, cabins, cottages, and motels on the roads leading in from the west. Staying any further out can cost you valuable time that you could be spending hiking, biking, and sightseeing. To escape from the crowds in the valley, reserve a campsite at Crane Flat or Hodgdon Meadow, which are far enough out to provide solitude but close enough to reach major valley attractions in less than half an hour. Campgrounds along Tioga Road see even fewer crowds. If you plan to visit in summer, you must reserve accommodations (even campsites) well in advance, as Yosemite remains extremely popular with both visitors from afar and those based in California.
