Considered as a supreme example of Scandinavian architecture, the house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Guided tours are available seasonally. • While walking along the trail, there was a nice home near the lake. It overlooks the lake and there are nice benches and a beach where you can sit and see the birds. The trail was a pleasant walk...  more »
  • I wish the tour had been open so we could've seen inside. The walking trail down to it took a bit but was beautiful! A little more of a workout going back up. Worth the trip though to see this...  more »

  • The home is lovely. The history of it is very interesting. Lake Tahoe is stunning from any view. The tour guide was very informative. It is definitely worth the hike down to it. But remember what goes down has to get back up the hill. It may be too much for some.
  • Get there before 10:00 a.m. to make sure you get a parking spot unless you want to park along the road. It's a mile walk down and a pretty steep walk up but it's all on relatively even surface. They have a small gift shop at the bottom that has some ice cream and water. There are also restrooms but no water in the restrooms. The tour of Vikingsholm was 30 minutes long and a guide provided a brief history of the family and property. You could look into the rooms but only were able to enter one. Still, it was worth it to us and we enjoyed Inspiration Point, a hike up to Cascade Falls and a visit to Vikingsholm.
