Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco

4.8
One of the most photographed structures in the world, Golden Gate Bridge is the first feature of San Francisco you'll see when driving in from the north. Opened in 1937, the structure boasted the longest suspension bridge main span until 1964. Still considered one of the world's greatest engineering feats, the bridge draws visitors with its numerous vantage points, from which you can see and photograph the picturesque bay and boats passing under the iconic structure's red towers. The bridge has sectioned-off pathways on each side for both pedestrians and cyclists, so you can take your time crossing and admiring the views. Though the bridge closes for pedestrians at night. • We took a cab across and then walked back because we were on a time crunch. But, it is a very easy walk and we could have walked across and back. We saw a whale near the bridge. If you drive, you have...  more »
  • As soon as you arrive in San Francisco the circles with the look: is the icon of the city. Solutions to admire it are many, the most beautiful are on foot or by bicycle and all Marin county with Sausalito and Tiburon deserve a break. It is very windy.

  • We took a boat trip under and a bus over the bridge. This iconic landmark is an amazing piece of history and a beautiful thing to see. You can’t go San Francisco without seeing this.  more »

  • Breathtaking views. Super helpful team at the info building, with phone charges!!! (No iPhone charger but you can use your own). And reasonably priced souvenirs which is nice. A bit more out the way than I expected... But SF is a lot bigger than I expected too!
  • Good place to visit and hangout with family and friends. The “Golden Gate” refers to the strait through which boats go to enter the Bay. It was originally named by U.S. army officer John Fremont in 1846. The hills surroundings the bridge are themselves golden in color much of the year and when the sun is at the right angle it has an extremely beautiful golden glow. The bridge is simply the bridge that spans the Golden Gate Strait. The Golden Gate bridge is regularly painted. Every state in the United States has a bridge maintenance and inspection plan. When built, it was the bridge with the longest span bridge in the world till 1964. Now it is the ninth-longest suspension bridge in the world. It is famous for its extraordinary design. One can swim, across the strait but completely at one's own risk. One can come in at Fort Baker on the North side or at Ft Point on the South. Both are rocky entries and you should visit and enter them during daylight.
  • Must visit is San Francisco. The best place to be on the west coast. So red so bright.. so serene and so gigantic.. The best way too see the bridge is through its welcome centre. Metered Parking is easily available on the other side of the road. Take a windcheater or pullover if you plan to walk on the bridge as it gets very windy at times. Take a small drive to Baker beach or Vista point to see good views.
  • Golden (but red) Gate Bridge, The Bridge that connects northern San Francisco to the other side of the peninsula, Marin County. This is probably one of the most spectacular human construction that I have ever seen. The perfect location, between the bay and the Pacific Ocean, the stunning and majestic architecture, the multiple astonishing views that you get from the different spots, all these beautiful things will make your experience an indelible memory. At Marin County there´s a beautiful National Park, on the hills, from where you have the best panorama over the city of San Francisco. Incredibly recommended!
  • Great place to visit. There is a lot of information regarding the bridge and the history of it which are really interesting. You can walk/bike/drive across the bridge, depending on your preference. It's clean and safe and when you're at the mid bridge, you'll be able to look back to the city of SF as a whole which is really beautiful! Doesn't matter whether it's a sunny or cloudy day, you'll be able to see SF in a different way!
