52nd Annual Sawdust Art Festival | OPEN DAILY June 29 - September 2, 2018. Summer hours: 10am-10pm
Founded in 1967, the Sawdust Art Festival is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public and promoting art created in Laguna Beach. Best known for offering two highly attended seasonal festivals, the organization also hosts a variety of workshops and classes throughout the year.
Sawdust’s legendary summer festival is a nine-week summer celebration of fine art and craft – the largest in Southern California – with more than 200 Laguna Beach artists who exhibit and sell their original art and handcrafted items. The festival also offers live entertainment, fashion shows, artist demonstrations, hands-on art workshops for all ages, and a variety of food & drink offerings.
Sawdust’s Annual Winter Fantasy Festival occurs for five weekends leading up to the holiday season, and boasts an international collection of over 175 artisans who create, showcase, and sell their original, handcrafted artwork on the Sawdust grounds, which are lavishly decorated to resemble a winter wonderland. Special activities include “Winter Art Series” classes, where guests can create holiday-themed works, and a highly anticipated Annual Community Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Throughout the remainder of the year, the organization continues to provide its Sawdust Studio Art Classes in a variety of mediums, on-site and off-site. For more information, visit: www.sawdustartfestival.org
Sawdust Arts and Craft Festival Reviews
This was my first time at Sawdust (wanted to go for years). I was so disappointed. The "arts & crafts" were average, nothing really stood out. And the prices! Really, people? And don't get me... more »
This is an old-growth Laguna Beach annual fixture. The sawdust is strewn over the ground, not required art material. With its own shady food court and beer on tap, you don't necessarily have to... more »
Been trying to go for years and finally got to go. I really appreciate that Sawdust does these kids of these things year round, so the cover charge makes sense. Speaking of the cover charge, it's not too bad at all. Everyone on staff is very friendly and helpful as well. Had a great time.
Highly overrated. I had never been here but had wanted to come for years. I chose a Tuesday morning to go so as to avoid the big crowds, and it was definitely the right thing to do. Unfortunately, there's not a lot to see at the Sawdust Festival. I went to find a wedding gift like a handcrafted cutting board but instead I found some boards that looked like scrap wood sanded down and stained. No particular craftsmanship at all, plus a snarky sign on the booth that read, "We know you could make one yourself, but you won't, so just buy one." HUH? Advertising how easy these things are to make? Sorry, no sale. Noe of the other artists' work really jumped out at me either. I thought that absent a nice cutting board I might get a ceramic serving platter of some sort. All I found was some mass-produced chip and dip bowl/platters with glaze on one half to make them look edgy, I guess. (Edgy for 1974, I suppose.) After paying $7 to park in Lot J (do this, though) and $9 to get in, I spent $16 for an hour of dubious entertainment. Not worth it. It's essentially a craft street fair with an entrance fee.
