Lanikai Beach, Kailua

4.6
Consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in the world, Lanikai Beach attracts photographers for the view over two islands called the na mokulua, or mokes. In fact, the coast is often populated with photographers and models working on photo shoots for magazines. The beach is accessible by public paths through a nearby residential neighborhood. Bring water, snacks, and sunscreen; the beach has no facilities. • Since we first started going to Lanikai Beach over 10 years ago, word has gotten out about this idyllic location. It now includes masses of people coming over for the day from Waikiki. There is even a...  more »
  • Anyway, the sea is clean. Contrast of the sky, sea and sand is the best to take pictures. It took many. Go Kailua stopped the car because the parking is not fun, and to Lanikai beach is a little stroll while enjoying the views. Just sat around watching the landscape while listening to the sound of the waves makes me very happy.

  • During the moment of fun, but way to Kailua town from Kailua, Lanikai Beach bus aboard, round up and around, just go to Kailua town, so much fun. Without getting off the bus, so we get to Kailua town.

  • Small beach perfect for getting away from Waikiki - fewer people and beautiful sand. You can call rental companies for paddle boards if you want. Great for families and friends looking for a quiet getaway. Plenty to eat and do close by, too. Parking is a little tricky - have to find a spot on the early street and walk through one of the designated little sandy alleyways to access the beach.
  • If you come to Oahu and do not go to Lanikai Beach you are seriously missing out. It is best to come first thing in the morning, there will be plenty of parking and the beach isn't as busy. We have found that later in the day is when it gets pretty crazy here. This beach is as beautiful and relaxing as it gets. The sand is beautiful and soft white sand. The water is calm and the most beautiful turquoise, clear water ever. Don't skip over Lanikai Beach when planning your trip, you'll be sad that you missed it.
  • This is a serene and beautiful beach. We arrived later in the evening and there were only a few other people on the beach. The water is clean and clear, just as all the other beaches on this side of the island. Parking was not easy to find and we had to park a couple of street over. Streets around the beach are narrow and congested, drive cautiously.
  • One of the most beautiful beaches on Oahu! It came get a little crowded at times but going early in the morning is very relaxing. The water is the clearest I've seen so far on the island. There aren't any aggressive waves so it's great for a calming swim.
  • Lanikai Beach is consistently regarded as one of the best beaches in the world. The water is clear and perfect temperature, the view is amazing as there are multiple islands just off the coast, and the sand is amazing for picnics, tanning, or napping. However, this is not a state maintained beach so there are no bathroom facilities, or any parking. But the The Bus does service this area so you can park in town and take the bus out to the beach. Bring a towel, some food, and some maybe some beers.
