#6 of 120 in Museums in Hawaii
Military Museum · Hidden Gem · Museum
Set inside one of Oahu's once-vital coastal artillery installations, US Army Museum of Hawaii provides a military history of the islands and U.S. operations in the Asia-Pacific region. The exhibits deal with American involvement in Korea, Vietnam, and the Pacific Theater of World War II, as well as Hawaii's military tradition since ancient times. You'll find that the exhibits offer audio-visual experiences--photos, videos, and sound effects--in additional to displays of military hardware such as tanks, guns, and traditional Hawaiian feudal weapons. Don't miss the Gallery of Heroes, a special section dedicated to recipients of the Medal of Honor and other distinguished decorations. • Free admission two-story museum right next to Fort DeRussy Beach. Lots of cool exhibits to take pictures of and a bunch of information to read up on. Pretty stained glass window on the second floor. Has a gift shop on the first floor. A nice place to visit!
  • I came with my 11 and 16 year old boys. They were fascinated by so many of the details from the construction of the fort to the guns to the stories of the Pearl Harbor attack. We spent over an hour in there and could have spent more if not for another activity we had to go to. Its displays do well at conveying the history while also building respect for those who served.
