Waimea Bay, Haleiwa

4.7
#2 of 17 in Parks in Haleiwa
Featuring large waves and surfing competitions, Waimea Bay hugs a powdery beach bordered by tropical greenery. Depending on the weather, the ocean can be completely calm, or you can encounter 15 m (50 ft) waves. Visit the beach to lounge in the sun or have a picnic, or walk through the nearby gardens and look at the waterfalls. When the water is calm, you can also swim and snorkel. Beware of the local tradition of rock-jumping--although many visitors do it, the local authorities strictly advise against it. Parking space at the site is very limited. • Really enjoyed our visit to Waimea Bay beach! The water was crystal clear and the snorkelling was beautiful, especially on the north side of the beach A couple of turtles swimming and on the beach! We...  more »
  • This beach is one of our favorites. Pros: Nice beach area, good size, surfing is possible of course (North Shore is a classic surf area), good facilities. Bathroom/changing area, outside faucets and s...  more »
  • I would highly recommend. Beautiful beach with cliffs near by ( my sons jumped from them which were about 30 to 40 feet high). Parking is tough but you can park across the street at the park and walk ...  more »

  • Great sand and beach, almost like quick sand when the tide rolls out. There’s a medium height rock cliff you can jump off into the water to the left of the ocean. Unfortunately, the fisherman take up the calm side of the beach so the kiddos are left with the rougher water side. There a life guard on duty, picnic beaches but not a lot of shade so come prepared. Parking is limited so come early.
  • Love this beach. Arrive early so you can get a parking spot, otherwise there is more parking at the church or across the street but a much farther walk obviously. Great location and beach is amazing. People can jump off rocks, snorkel or just float around on a calm day. FYI summer time is usually pretty calm but keep your eyes open for any warning signs and always listen to the lifeguards.
  • My go to beach when I was living up on the North Shore. Winter time great place to see big waves summer time great sandy beach. Parking is a problem. So chances are unless you get there early you are going to have to do the hike. Hit up the Foodland for all of your beach snacks. One of my top beaches on the island. The people who just stick around Waikiki have no idea what they are missing.
  • Awesome place been here a couple of times and seen everything, from dolphins to turtles. Definitely worth going.
  • Incredible beach to hang out at. Awesome bouldering on the left side of the beach (coming from the parking lot). The rock is super fun to jump off of but be careful, it's not that deep (8-10ft). Great place to watch the sunset.
