A location associated with the Knights Templar, Rosslyn Chapel is the setting for many stories involving alternative histories. However, these stories are more fantasy than fact, and the chapel stands today as a remarkable historical and architectural landmark. The rich medieval and Gothic architecture rewards a careful eye with a wealth of hidden symbols--many have tried to interpret their meaning. Attend one of the free introductory talks on the chapel's history that take place daily. Don't leave the basement out of your tour: There you will find the architect's original plans sketched on the wall. To visit Rosslyn Chapel on your trip to Roslin, use our Roslin trip planner.

Rosslyn Chapel Reviews
Rosslyn Chapel was built in 1446, in connection with Sir William St Clair plan – the local Lord. The chapel is situated near Edinburgh, at Chapel Loan, Roslin EH25 9PU. Inside the chapel we met a lot.... more »
A beautiful chapel with so much history regarding its survival. Staff very friendly. I received an unplanned personal tour from Jenny which was greatly appreciated. Well worth visiting especially if..... more »
Not a bad place. Interesting story and history behind it and they know how to sell it. Occasional guides tell you a bit part of the story of the chapel. Definitely interesting and a good place to visit. It has got a cafe, shop, activities to do and a parking. Brochures are available in various languages
Fascinating place. Smaller than I expected. I'm not sure why I thought it was bigger to be honest. The word Chapel in the title should have given me a clue 😁. The building is full of character with hundreds of intricate carvings on almost every surface. Your visit should take between 1 and 2 hours depending on how long you want to spend admiring the carvings and looking for specific images. No taking of photos inside but given how busy it was I can understand why they have adopted that policy. There are English guides of the chapel on the hour with other languages seemingly interspersed on the half hour. I'm not sure if those are provide by the staff or by visiting tour guides. The attached shop and cafe were good. The quality of service, food and merchandise was generally excellent. The staff were universally friendly and helpful which is always a bonus. Note you can NOT access the shop and cafe without purchasing a ticket (£9.00 at the time of my visit). As the money goes into the non profit making charity coffers it seems a very reasonable price. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. Please be aware that the Chapel is still a functioning place of worship so time your visit outside of services (unless you want to take part).
