Belton House, Grantham

4.3
Must see · Historic Site · Tourist Spot
One of the most complete examples of a typical English country dwelling, Belton House is surrounded by landscaped gardens with pathways that ribbon through the woodlands and park. The house was constructed in the 17th-century by Sir John Brownlow, who, despite his great wealth, chose to build modestly. However, the interior was outfitted with the most innovative designs for the time, including sash windows. The family's social status fluctuated from barons to earls and back again, but the textiles and the decor have remained largely the same since 1688. Nowadays, the National Trust owns and maintains the site, keeping it open to the public during daylight hours. • Absolutely love it here! The grounds are beautiful and well kept, you can wander for hours! The house itself is lovely and well preserved, with guides in each room who have plenty of information. The gardens are beautiful and lovely to look around, the deer park is also an excellent walk, if you go at the right time of year you can see plenty of them up close. Would highly recommend, we took a picnic, plenty of people with kids of all ages too. Great day out.
  • Me and my family love going here. There is loads to do here and we are always discovering new things. The playground is excellent. It can be a bit pricey if you are not a member. I would recommend becoming a member as visiting here 3 times in one year will pay for itself.
