Stonehenge is one of the world's most impressive prehistoric monuments. The construction of the ditch and surrounding embankment dates to 3100 BCE, and radiocarbon dating indicates that placement of the standing stones took place between 2400 and 2200 BCE. Spend time in the visitor's center before viewing the site. The interpretive displays and exhibits here tell stories about the monument and explain the popular debates about its possible prehistoric uses. These will help give you context to appreciate its significance--though the age-old question of how the giant standing stones got there remains unanswered. The cafe by the entrance provides a place to grab snacks before you proceed to the site by shuttle bus. Buy your tickets online before visiting to avoid waiting in line at the ticket kiosk, and check the weather forecast so that you can dress appropriately. One of the most ancient historical sites in England. A must see if you are visiting. The history that goes with this place is phenomenal. That humans almost five thousand years ago managed a feat like this is amazing. It is fairly easy to get there if you have your own transport. Adequate parking near the site. The ticket office is well staffed. There is a small museum near the entrance. Just outside there are some small huts which depict the kind of homes people used to live in during the time Stonehenge was built. From the main entrance, you can take a bus to the stones or choose to walk. The walk takes about 20 minutes. The bus ride is included in your ticket. Take an audio guide. It provides a good amount of history about the stones and sets the scene of what you are seeing.
The drive up to the place is next level. I would suggest that you go there by your own car or a rental. Book your tickets in advance as the line for on the spot tickets is always huge.
