One of the area's last remaining fortress-monasteries, Sousse Ribat RIBAT once served as both a watchtower and minaret. Fusing Byzantine and Arab architectural styles and dating back to the 7th century, the building contains two levels and a courtyard, surrounded by arcaded porticos. If you climb to the top of the ribat, you'll be able to see the surrounding landscape from a bird's-eye view.     I was crazy enough to brave the Ribat at 2:30 pm at the end of July. It was VERY hot. You should go all the way to the top on narrow winding stairs to get a gorgeous 360-degree panorama of the city.  more »
