Centro storico, Sidi Bou Said

#1 of 7 in Things to do in Sidi Bou Said
Stroll through the narrow alleys of Centro storico, packed with white and blue houses overgrown with bougainvillea that evokes the ambiance of a Greek island. In the 18th century, this sacred Sufi site became a retreat for Turkish governors and rich Tunisians who built residences with impressive sea views. The town owes its current appearance to an early 20th-century French baron, who forbade any construction not consistent with the traditional Arab-Andalus style. • A colorful suburb of Tunisia. All buildings, as well as chairs, urns, all-all-all painted in white-blue colors, and no other legally allowed. Looks very spectacular and creates a resemblance to the Greek Santorini.
