City of Yatai

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Head to Tenjin Underground Shopping Center and JR Hakata City Amu Plaza Hakatafor plenty of shopping. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Dazaifu Tenman-gu and Mojiko Retro. Change things up with a short trip to Kyushu Railway History Museum in Kitakyushu (about 1h 30 min away). There's lots more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kushida Shrine, admire the landmark architecture of Hakata Station, go for a walk through Fukuoka Tower, and walk around Ohori Park.
