Enjoy the atmosphere and architecture of 1930s design in Napier, one of the best-preserved Art Deco cities in the world.
Gentle Annie Highway has been added to your itinerary. Take a break from Napier with a short trip to Te Mata Peak in Hastings, about 32 minutes away. There's much more to do: indulge your senses at some of the top wineries in the area, get great views at Bluff Hill Lookout, don't miss a visit to Marine Parade, and observe the fascinating underwater world at National Aquarium of New Zealand.

To see other places to visit, where to stay, photos, and tourist information, you can read our Napier attractions planner.

Wellington to Napier is an approximately 2.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Cap off your sightseeing on the 29th (Fri) early enough to catch the flight back home.

Hiking across the gentle hills, seeing vineyard after picturesque vineyard, before stopping in for an award-winning glass from New Zealand's self-professed "Wine Country": a holiday in Hawke's Bay Region is perhaps best enjoyed at a leisurely pace. The warm climate makes it a great place for a walking or cycling trip, while the rugged coast yields exciting opportunities to observe of one of the world's largest gannet colonies. Art Deco-decked Napier, and its popular museums and galleries, offers a charming counterpoint to the lush greenery.
