Queensland’s biggest town and state capital, Brisbane has an attractive, manicured image based around its riverside aesthetic as well as the contrast between its high-rise center and extensive urban greenery.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Old St Stephen's Catholic Church (Pugin Chapel) and The Workshops Rail Museum. Visit St. John's Anglican Cathedral and Newstead House for their historical value. There's still lots to do: look and learn at Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, examine the collection at Old Government House, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Albert Street Uniting Church, and get engrossed in the history at MacArthur Museum Brisbane.

Just a little way off the southern end of Grand Terre, Île des Pins (the Isle of Pines) gets its name from the tall columnar pines that stick out of the surrounding vegetation like bristles on a brush.
