A symbol of the Incan civilization, the abandoned city of Machu Picchu represents a must-see on a Peru vacation.
Kick off your visit on the 15th (Mon): see the interesting displays at Museo de Sitio Manuel Chavez Ballon, browse the eclectic array of goods at Mercado de Artesanias, and then stroll through Jardin Botanico en Machu Pichu. Hugging the western tip of Lake Titicaca, Puno serves as a melting pot of indigenous and imported cultures, and makes a great base for explorations around the region.
Sillustani and La Casa del Corregidor are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Luquina Chico and Condor Hill (Mirador de Kuntur Wasi). There's still lots to do: head off the coast to Taquile Island, see the interesting displays at Museo Carlos Dreyer, stroll around Parque Pino, and delve into the distant past at Catedral de Chucuito.

Take a moment to catch your breath as you commence your holiday in La Paz.
Get outdoors at Huayna Potosi and Chacaltaya Ski Resort. Step off the beaten path and head to National Museum of Ethnography and Folklore and San Miguel.
