The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Tochoji Temple and Nanzoin. Get some cultural insight at Yoshinogari Historical Park and Kumamoto Castle. Step out of Fukuoka to go to Dazaifu and see Dazaifu Tenman-gu, which is approximately 36 minutes away. It doesn't end there: browse the different shops at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center and enjoy breathtaking views from Fukuoka Tower.

The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II. This history, of course, remains important to the city, its inhabitants, and to the wider world, and should not be forgotten.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and Yutoku Inari Shrine. Discover out-of-the-way places like Nagasaki Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims and Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture. Step out of Nagasaki to go to Omura and see Former Kusumoto Masataka Mansion, which is approximately 42 minutes away.
