Your inner history buff will appreciate Reykjavik Open Air Museum and Galgaklettur. Thingvellir National Park and Einar Jonsson Museum (Listasafn Einars Jonssonar) are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore Reykjavik's surroundings by going to The Cave People (in Laugarvatn), Faxi (Vatnsleysufoss) Waterfall (in Skalholt) and Bruarfoss Waterfall (in Brekkuskogur). Often referred to as Iceland's second city, Akureyri offers an array of cultural attractions in a scenic setting.
Step out of the city life by going to Speed Boats Tours and Lytingsstadir Riding Tours. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Akureyrarkirkja and The Motorcycle Museum of Iceland. Change things up with these side-trips from Akureyri: Víðimýrarkirkja (in Varmahlid), Hofsos (Samgonguminjasafn Skagafjaroar Storageroi & The Icelandic Emigration Center) and Puffin and Friends (in Saudarkrokur).
