Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Get a sense of the local culture at Sea Fortress Suomenlinna and Turku Castle. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Mannerheim Museum and Tampereen Tuomiokirkko. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Helsinki: Turku (Bike Rental - by Carfield & Turku Cathedral) and Tampere (Church of St. Alexander Nevsky and St. Nicholas & Vanha Kirkko). The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Get some historical perspective at Kushida Shrine and Miyajidake Shrine. Explore hidden gems such as Dazaifu Tenman-gu and Nanzoin.
