Kids will enjoy Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings and Tokyo Disneyland. Senso-ji Temple and Imperial Palace will appeal to history buffs. Change things up with a short trip to Tokyo DisneySea in Urayasu (about 30 minutes away). The adventure continues: get a taste of the local shopping with Ginza, examine the collection at Edo-Tokyo Museum, browse the eclectic array of goods at Tsukiji Market, and explore the world behind art at Tokyo National Museum.

Perth, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 16-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. Traveling from Perth to Tokyo, you'll lose 1 hour due to the time zone difference. You can drive from Hakuba-mura to Kyoto in 5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or take a bus. Traveling from Hakuba-mura in January, things will get somewhat warmer in Kyoto: highs are around 10°C and lows about 1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 20th (Sun) so you can catch the train to Kobe.
