Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Step off the beaten path and head to Macchina di Santa Rosa and Basilica di Santa Maria di Collemaggio e Porta Santa. Take a break from Rome with a short trip to Monastero Di S.Benedetto in Subiaco, about 1h 10 min away. There's still lots to do: delve into the distant past at Colosseum, ponder the design of Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, make a trip to Trevi Fountain, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilica Papale San Paolo fuori le Mura.

Phoenix, USA to Rome is an approximately 17-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 8 hours traveling from Phoenix to Rome. Traveling from Phoenix in September, expect Rome to be little chillier, temps between 81°F and 60°F. You will have some time to spend on the 26th (Sat) before leaving for Florence.

Getting from Cinque Terre to Bellagio by car takes about 4 hours. Other options: take a train. Prepare for a bit cooler weather when traveling from Cinque Terre in October: high temperatures in Bellagio hover around 64°F and lows are around 49°F.
