Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
For shopping fun, head to Ginza or Asakusa. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Senso-ji Temple and Akihabara. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Tokyo: Nature & Wildlife Tours (in Fuji), Lake Ashi (Ashinoko) (in Hakone-machi) and Lake Kawaguchi (in Fujikawaguchiko-machi). Next up on the itinerary: find something for the whole family at Tokyo Disneyland, discover the magic at Tokyo DisneySea, take an in-depth tour of Fukagawa Edo Museum, and explore the world behind art at Tokyo National Museum.

To find photos, ratings, other places to visit, and tourist information, go to the Tokyo day trip planning website.

Brisbane, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 12.5- hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight. Traveling from Brisbane to Tokyo, you'll gain 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Plan for much colder temperatures traveling from Brisbane in March, with highs in Tokyo at 17°C and lows at 7°C. On the 4th (Sat), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Start off your visit on the 4th (Sat): steep yourself in history at Sanjusangendo Temple. Here are some ideas for day two: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, then learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Monkey Park Iwatayama, then step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

Osaka

Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Get some cultural insight at Dotombori and Nara Park. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street and Hankyu Umeda Gallery. Get out of town with these interesting Osaka side-trips: Himeji Castle (in Himeji), Koya-cho (Mt. Koya, Koyasan Okunoin, &more) and Nara (Kasuga Grand Shrine, Kofuku-ji Temple, &more). There's much more to do: find something for the whole family at Universal Studios Japan, examine the collection at Osaka Shiritsu Toyo Toji Museum, get a taste of the local shopping with Minami (Namba), and get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan.

To see where to stay, more things to do, maps, and tourist information, use the Osaka online trip itinerary planner.

Osaka is just a short distance from Kyoto. Expect a daytime high around 23°C in April, and nighttime lows around 12°C. You will have some time to spend on the 12th (Sun) before leaving for home.
