The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Sat): take in the spiritual surroundings of Tochoji Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Nanzoin, thentake in the spiritual surroundings of Miyajidake Shrine, and finally get engrossed in the history at Munakata Shrine. Traveling from Kobe in May, you will find days in Osaka are a bit warmer (29°C), and nights are about the same (18°C).
