Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Lima is known for parks, historic sites, museums, shopping, and nightlife. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: admire the local landmark of Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayor), take an in-depth tour of Museo Larco, delve into the distant past at Huaca Pucllana, and get a taste of the local shopping with Shopping Center Larcomar (Centro Comercial Larcomar).

Washington DC, USA to Lima is an approximately 13.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of bus and flight. Traveling from Washington DC in June, things will get slightly colder in Lima: highs are around 70°F and lows about 63°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel to Arequipa.

In an area dominated three imposing volcanoes, Arequipa vacations allow visitors to admire well-preserved colonial architecture in a dramatic setting.
On the 12th (Wed), make a trip to Plaza de Armas, get engrossed in the history at Museo Santuarios Andinos, then see the interesting displays at Santa Catalina Monastery, then see the interesting displays at Cathedral of Arequipa Museum, and finally steep yourself in history at Historic Centre of Arequipa. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 13th (Thu): take in the spiritual surroundings of Iglesia de San Miguel Arcangel, then head outdoors with Canon de Cotahuasi, then explore the world behind art at Museo de Arte Virreinal Santa Teresa, and finally admire the landmark architecture of Casa del Moral.

Traveling by flight from Lima to Arequipa takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Lima in June, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be little chillier in Arequipa, with lows of 47°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Thu) to allow time to drive to Puno.

Hugging the western tip of Lake Titicaca, Puno serves as a melting pot of indigenous and imported cultures, and makes a great base for explorations around the region.
On the 14th (Fri), head off the coast to Uros Floating Islands and then step off the mainland to explore Taquile Island. On the 15th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: explore the activities along Lake Titicaca, delve into the distant past at Sillustani, and then don't miss a visit to Chullpas.

You can drive from Arequipa to Puno in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. When traveling from Arequipa in June, plan for slightly colder days in Puno, with highs around 65°F, while nights are colder with lows around 24°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Sat) early enough to travel to Cusco.

Getting from Puno to Cusco by combination of bus and flight takes about 3 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Puno in June, Cusco is somewhat warmer at night with lows of 35°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Tue) to allow time to travel to Machu Picchu.
