Ishigaki

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Get some cultural insight at Cape Hirakubozaki and Nei Museum of Art. We've included these beaches for you: Kondoi Beach and Yonehara Beach. There's still lots to do: head into the lower depths with Prime Scuba Ishigaki Diving Center - Day Tour, walk around Kabira Park, get to know the fascinating history of Island Countryside Settlement, and take in panoramic vistas at Tamatorizaki Observatory.

Muscat, Oman to Ishigaki is an approximately 18.5-hour flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 5 hours traveling from Muscat to Ishigaki. While traveling from Muscat, expect a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Ishigaki, ranging from highs of 26°C to lows of 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Wed) so you can travel to Miyakojima.

Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Start off your visit on the 10th (Thu): look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas, kick back and relax at Sunayama Beach, then identify plant and animal life at Yabiji, then enjoy the sand and surf at Toguchi no Hama, and finally take in the views from Irabu Ohashi. Here are some ideas for day two: visit a coastal fixture at Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, make a trip to East Henna Cape, then enjoy the sand and surf at Aragusuku Beach, then take in the views from Kurima Bridge, and finally take in the views from Ikema Ohashi Bridge.

You can fly from Ishigaki to Miyakojima in 2.5 hours. In December, plan for daily highs up to 25°C, and evening lows to 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Fri) early enough to travel to Nanjo.

Nanjo

With a long Pacific coastline, Nanjo offers fantastic views of the ocean from high cliffs covered with lush greenery, as well as from its long sandy beaches.
Kick off your visit on the 12th (Sat): take an in-depth tour of Himeyuri Peace Museum, steep yourself in history at The Tower of Himeyuri, then contemplate the long history of Okinawa Peace Memorial Park, then admire the verdant scenery at Valley of Gangala, and finally steep yourself in history at Sefa-Utaki.

You can fly from Miyakojima to Nanjo in 4 hours. In December, daytime highs in Nanjo are 24°C, while nighttime lows are 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Sat) to allow time to travel to Kyoto.

Kyoto

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kodai-ji Temple. Discover out-of-the-way places like Tofuku-ji Temple and Naniwa Meibutsu Ichibirian Dotombori. Step out of Kyoto with an excursion to Dotombori District in Dotombori--about 1h 10 min away. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, don't miss a visit to Eikando Zenrinji Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, and take in the pleasant sights at Arashiyama.

Getting from Nanjo to Kyoto by flight takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of car, ferry, and train. When traveling from Nanjo in December, plan for a bit cooler days in Kyoto, with highs around 13°C, while nights are cooler with lows around 4°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 16th (Wed) so you can go by car to Ise.

Ise

A spiritual center of Shintoism, Ise stands as a traditional city where visitors can see the roots of Japanese culture in a number of well-preserved natural and historic sites.

Traveling from Kyoto in December, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Ise, with lows of 9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Thu) early enough to travel to Tokyo.

Tokyo

Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Kick off your visit on the 18th (Fri): visit Ueno District, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Senso-ji Temple, then get engrossed in the history at Edo-Tokyo Museum, and finally take a stroll through Ginza.

Traveling by train from Ise to Tokyo takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of train and flight. Expect slightly colder evenings in Tokyo when traveling from Ise in December, with lows around 4°C. On the 19th (Sat), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
