Traveling by combination of bus and flight from Geysir to Akureyri takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and bus; or drive. Reykjavik, the world's most northerly capital, effortlessly combines small-town charm with heaps of big city energy.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Hraunfossar and Reykjavik Open Air Museum. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Videy Island and Domkirkjan. You can fly from Akureyri to Reykjavik in an hour. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. In July, daily temperatures in Reykjavik can reach 17°C, while at night they dip to 10°C. You'll have a few hours on the 5th (Wed) to wrap things up before traveling home.
