Spend time in one of Europe's oldest cities, the vibrant Bulgarian capital of Sofia.
Visit Saint Sofia Church and Catedral de Sveta-Nedelya for their historical value. Explore hidden gems such as National Institute of Archaeology with Museum and Galeria Nina. Change things up with a short trip to Rila Monastery in Rila (about 1h 30 min away). Start off your visit on the 9th (Fri): step into the grandiose world of Peles Castle, then explore the historical opulence of Pelisor Castle, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sinaia Monastery, and finally step into the grandiose world of Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle). Here are some ideas for day two: steep yourself in history at Peasant Fortified Church at Prejmer, wander the streets of Brasov Historical Center, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Catedrala Ortodoxa Adormirea Maicii Domnului, and finally take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Tampa.

Citadel of Alba Iulia and Passage of Stairs will appeal to history buffs. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Transfagarasan Highway and ASTRA Museum. Step out of Sibiu with an excursion to The Fortified Church of Biertan in Biertan--about 1h 20 min away. There's more to do: take a stroll through Old Town and take in the spiritual surroundings of Lutheran Evangelical Cathedral & Tower.
