In the Aosta Valley bordering Switzerland and France, the medieval city of Aosta is famous for its prime skiing conditions and rich cultural history.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Parco Nazionale Gran Paradiso and Charbonnier Mongolfiere. Visiting Pila and Lillaz Waterfalls will get you outdoors. Change things up with these side-trips from Aosta: Val Ferret (in Courmayeur), Sentiero "Sulle sponde del Savara" (in Valsavarenche) and Castello di Issogne (in Issogne). The adventure continues: step into the grandiose world of Castello di Fenis, explore the activities along Lago Blu, explore the ancient world of Criptoportico Forense, and relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour.

For more things to do, photos, maps, and more tourist information, refer to the Aosta online trip maker.

Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Cannaregio and Food Tours. Get outdoors at Lido and Laguna Veneta. Take a break from Venice with a short trip to Blue Moon in Lido di Venezia, about 1h 5 min away. There's still lots to do: wander the streets of Dorsoduro, take in the views from Ponte dell'Accademia, head off the coast to Giudecca, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari.
