Hugging the western tip of Lake Titicaca, Puno serves as a melting pot of indigenous and imported cultures, and makes a great base for explorations around the region.
Kick off your visit on the 15th (Wed): head off the coast to Taquile Island and then explore the activities along Lake Titicaca. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take some stellar pictures from Mirador Ing. Eduardo Sanchez, then delve into the distant past at Sillustani, then explore the activities along Lake Umayo, and finally stroll around Parque Pino.

Lima to Puno is an approximately 4- hour combination of flight and bus. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or drive. While traveling from Lima, expect little chillier days and colder nights in Puno, ranging from highs of 22°C to lows of 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Thu) to allow time to travel to Cusco.

Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
On the 17th (Fri), trot along with a tour on horseback and then contemplate the long history of Sacsayhuaman. Keep things going the next day: paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, hike along exploor, then indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas, then explore the ancient world of Q'enqo, and finally tour the pleasant surroundings at Santuario Animal de Cochahuasi.

Do a combination of bus and flight from Puno to Cusco in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Puno in April, Cusco is somewhat warmer at night with lows of 7°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Sat) early enough to travel to Machu Picchu.

A symbol of the Incan civilization, the abandoned city of Machu Picchu represents a must-see on a Peru vacation.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Winay Wayna and Banos Termales de Cocalmayo. Take a break from Machu Picchu with a short trip to Ruinas de Choquequirao in Cachora, about 1h 35 min away. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu, take in the dramatic scenery at Cascadas Allcamayo, admire the natural beauty at Mariposario de Machupicchu, and see the interesting displays at Museo de Sitio Manuel Chavez Ballon.

Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Kick off your visit on the 23rd (Thu): admire the masterpieces at Museo MATE and then look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas. On your second day here, make a trip to Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayor), take in the views from Bridge of Sighs, and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Basilica y Monasterio de Santo Domingo.

Do a combination of train, bus, and flight from Machu Picchu to Lima in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and flight; or drive. April in Lima sees daily highs of 28°C and lows of 22°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 24th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
