Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Sengan-en and Chiran Peace Museum. Shop till you drop at AMU PLAZA KAGOSHIMA and Eguchi Horai Hall. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kagoshima: Kirishima (Kirishima Shrine & Kirishima Distillery) and Ibusuki (Onsen Resorts & JR Southernmost Nishioyama Station). There's lots more to do: get impressive views of Sakurajima, explore the world behind art at Nagashima Museum, sample the fine beverages at Satsuma Gojugura Galleria Hombo, Hombo Shuzo, and sample the tasty concoctions at Musougura.

The hilly port city of Nagasaki has become known internationally as one of the two Japanese cities to be destroyed by an atomic bomb towards the close of World War II.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Mon): take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Inasa, get engrossed in the history at Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, walk around Nagasaki Peace Park, thenexamine the collection at Dejima, thenadmire the natural beauty at Glover Garden, and finally take a stroll through Shinchi Chinatown. On your second day here, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Ōura Church, stop by Seifudo, Glover Garden-dori, thencontemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sōfuku-ji Temple, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Catholic Church Hongouchi.

You can take a train from Kagoshima to Nagasaki in 3.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of car and ferry; or take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 17°C in March, and nighttime lows around 8°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 24th (Tue) early enough to drive to Hasami-cho.

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Get a sense of the local culture at Kumamoto Castle and Mojiko Retro. Visit Dazaifu Tenman-gu and Kokura Castle for their historical value. Get out of town with these interesting Fukuoka side-trips: Kobo Tottan (in Itoshima) and Kyoho Winery (in Kurume). It doesn't end there: buy something for everyone on your list at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center and take in the spiritual surroundings of Kushida Shrine.
