  • Thissa Wewa lake is an artificial lake, built by Devanam Piya Tissa in the 3rd Century BC. This lake is 3.2 km long and 25 feet high. The surface area is 550 acres. There is a walking path to Thissa Wewa from Isurumuniya Temple. It is around 5km’s from Anuradhapura New Town and this tank is in the area of Old City of Anuradhapura. The main purpose of this tank is to provide water for the paddy fields in the area. There are network of irrigation canals to distribute water from the tank to paddy fields. And this tank is famous among local travellers to stop near and have a bath and travel. The local people live nearby use this tank for their daily bathing and also for laundry purpose.
