Now an elaborate and decorative waterfront square, Praca do Comercio (Terreiro do Paco) was once home to the royal palace. Before the Great Earthquake of 1755, the royal family lived here. Today, the square acts as a port of entry to Lisbon. Meet with friends or begin your tour of the city at this central square, which houses the main tourism office on its west side. The square features a statue of King Jose I, a triumphal arch, and the Lisboa Story Center--an interactive museum. Explore the square and consider stopping in nearby restaurants and cafes, such as the famous 18th century Café Martinho da Arcada. • Nice place to take a walk. Feels very safe day and night. Lots of shops and place to eat. Check out some of the side streets.  more »
  • The staff were very friendly and helpful. In addition to shopping, there are many restaurants and cafes, suitable for the first day of the trip to Lisbon. Of course, the end of the street is the seaside, at dusk many tourists in the vicinity of the stone ladder, not leisurely.

  • It's difficult to rate a large plaza like this, except to say that you will almost certainly visit it if you are in Lisbon. At the end of the pedestrian zones, you will find this large, empty square with colonnades on 2 sides, tram stops, a small beach and pier with 2 columns, which may have a Masonic significance, as so some of the designs in the plaza itself. Part of the plaza is sometimes transformed into a free public theater with a giant screen for spectacles such as sporting events. The cafes along the arcades are large and reasonably priced for the area. If this review was helpful, please click Like!
  • Definitely happy to see this landmark. Easy access to the water. Even can dip our toes if you wanted to. Great central location to start your tours.
