Explore the historical Lisbon Zoo with its 300 species of animals, many of which are endangered. Dr. Van Der Leen, who owned the largest aviary in the country, founded the zoo in 1884 with the support of a few others. This zoo is focused on conservation and the continuation of endangered species. Learn about its efforts by participating in an educational program or joining in a recreational activity on site. You can see more than 2,000 animals, including 157 species of birds. The zoo also offers a number of entertaining exhibits, including a dolphin show. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Lisbon holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Lisbon Zoo and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • It's expensive - 85 Euros for two adults and five children - no family ticket, no late entrance offer if you go at the end of the day. We arrived at 15h30 (it closes at 18h00) expecting to see 3 shows...  more »
  • The Zoo is good, price is about true 25 euro, TSD is good but closes around 6 pm. On the territory there are cells with birds and parrots, prior to entrance for tickets)

  • This zoo is quite small and the lay out is on a steep hillside. It is not suitable for young children, the elderly or disabled. There is a small overhead cable car which allows you to look down on the...  more »

  • Brilliant. Worth every moment. Amazing animals, incredible dolphin and bird show. There are enough food and ice cream stands to keep one cool and fed. The zoo is small enough so that you could walk it in an hour and a half, but we spent 6 hours there, and could probably spent even more time.
  • Best zoo i've ever visited. It's 2 in 1 - zoo and botanical garden. The animals have very large spaces and there are no cages (except for some monkeys that wold have jumped on us otherwise). You can take pictures of animals without fences. There are peacocks wandering freely. Lots of trees, so it's ok to visit even in a summer afternoon. There is also a cable car you can take for free (included in the zoo ticket)
  • The zoo park is inspiring and a great feature of the tranquility of Lisbon at the heart of Lisbon. As time was limited be for my flight I did not manage to buy tickets to see inside the huge animals, but I saw the monkeys, parrots and several types of birds. The park is welcoming and provides a nice landscape with seats and accessible aminities.
  • Decent zoo to bring the kids in Lisbon. Nice range of animals including a dolphin show. Free gondola ride is a fun way to see the animals. Zoo feels like it needs updating.
  • My favorite Zoo ever. Interesting and charming exhibits set in beautiful nature. Monkeys and primates were especially entertaining. The cable cart scared me at first but we ended up taking it three times. Dolphin show was impressive. The place was a pleasure in spring with everything in bloom! Def. worth the price..
