Explore the historical Lisbon Zoo with its 300 species of animals, many of which are endangered. Dr. Van Der Leen, who owned the largest aviary in the country, founded the zoo in 1884 with the support of a few others. This zoo is focused on conservation and the continuation of endangered species. Learn about its efforts by participating in an educational program or joining in a recreational activity on site. You can see more than 2,000 animals, including 157 species of birds. The zoo also offers a number of entertaining exhibits, including a dolphin show. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Lisbon holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Lisbon Zoo and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • It's expensive - 85 Euros for two adults and five children - no family ticket, no late entrance offer if you go at the end of the day. We arrived at 15h30 (it closes at 18h00) expecting to see 3 shows...  more »
  • The Zoo is good, price is about true 25 euro, TSD is good but closes around 6 pm. On the territory there are cells with birds and parrots, prior to entrance for tickets)

  • This zoo is quite small and the lay out is on a steep hillside. It is not suitable for young children, the elderly or disabled. There is a small overhead cable car which allows you to look down on the...  more »

  • My favorite Zoo ever. Interesting and charming exhibits set in beautiful nature. Monkeys and primates were especially entertaining. The cable cart scared me at first but we ended up taking it three times. Dolphin show was impressive. The place was a pleasure in spring with everything in bloom! Def. worth the price..
  • Amazing experience! I can't believe I could have so much fun being an adult at the Zoo. So much to see, so much to do!! Loads of animals to see, kids farm , a must see dolphin show. Good food variety available. Worth every penny. We took it as a part of bus tour ticket it actually works out even cheaper. Highly recommend to visit!
  • If you love animals this is the place to visit. Huge animal variety. The zoo contributes to a major global project of conservation of endangered species and their habitat. What is cool about this zoo is the re-entry to the zoo with a valid stamp. And all the attractions and presentations are included in the entry price, except for the zoo train. I loved that!
  • The Lisbon zoo is by the largest zoo that I have been to in this part of Europe. It has a variety of animals and is quiet large. Having visited the zoo in winter I ask that in spring and summer it is much busier and the animals are more active. There are variety of birds, big cats such as tiger, lions, leopards, panther, wild cats, koala, monkeys, elephants, hippopotamus, rhinos, but no snakes. The dolphins show is held each day except for Tuesday's, not sure about weekends. Children of all ages and adults will enjoy the zoo.
  • 21.50 Eur entrance fee, despite cable car and trains not working and most restaurants closed... (off season / February). however, still a very nice experience, most charming and impressive architecture surrounded by kind of a tropical parc. most animals appear quite relaxed and in good shape - and are definitely impressive to watch! if everything is working and you spend all day in there, the entrance fee might be justified. but not for a quick 2-3 stroll...
