  • The view at the lookout is average and in Autumn there is basically no water flowing. Might have to check the falls out in spring melt?  more »
  • Mangawhero waterfall is along Ohakune Mountain Road at about the 14km marker, on the right hand side. The walk is between 3-5 minutes to the lookout point. A handy spot to add to your itinerary on...  more »
  • A stunning view! Mangawhero Falls is simply amazing. The site is quite small, but the beauty it contains is amazing. I personally visited the place to see a filming location for Lord of the Rings, and I was not let down! The place looks exactly like in the movies! You can easily match shots and recognize the place where they filmed gollum back in 1999/2000. Parking is done right by the falls, and there is a small 300m path you can follow that let's you get a view from the other side of the waterfall.
  • Very picturesque falls with a stunning pond at the bottom and one of the locations of Lord of the Rings where Gollum is caught by the Rangers fishing. The river where Smeagol found the Ring is nearby. It is a short walk from the road and very well worth stopping to do so.
