Marlborough Sounds, Picton

#2 of 25 in Parks in Marlborough Region
Water Body · Nature / Park
A stunning collection of sea-drowned valleys, Marlborough Sounds represents one of New Zealand's premier natural landscapes. The network includes around 4,000 sq km (1,544 sq mi) of sounds, islands, and peninsulas, and though sparsely populated by humans, the Department of Conservation manages over 50 nature preserves here. Hike through the verdant forests that rise from the sea, relax in the sheltered sandy bays, or sail the striking turquoise waters. If you plan on driving in the area, bear in mind that there are very few gas stations and fill your tank in advance. • The Marlborough sounds are just amazing and even if I have seen most of the sounds plenty of times I never get tired of looking at the scenery while on a boat  more »
  • Yes it is a long way to walk but the views are definitely worth it. There is also the added bonus of a comfy bed and hot shower along the way.  more »
