Air Force Museum of New Zealand
Explore the nation's long legacy of military aviation at Air Force Museum of New Zealand, featuring a wide array of well-known and rare aircraft. Follow the history of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, from its earliest days through its operations in both Europe and the Pacific during World War II to its postwar modernization. Wander the complex and admire the 28 aircraft on display, including famous warbirds like the Grumman Avenger, Supermarine Spitfire, and the P-51 Mustang. You can even hop aboard the museum's flight simulator to try your hand flying a deHavilland Mosquito in an attack on German battleships. Tours are offered; check the website for more information. Loads of planes and helicopters, all really cool. Interesting, informative, thought provoking. Focuses on the human side of war in the air as much as the technology. All the better for it. Currently on display is a collection of art created by students at a local school. Some real talent there. Cafe, gift shop, plenty of parking, excellent accessibility for less able folk. Easy to find and plenty of parking. Look for the plane by the Mobil petrol station.

The museum has historic airplanes in a very good restored condition. It has a lot of space to walk and sit around, it's very clean including its bathrooms. The staff is very kind and friendly and they have free tours during the day and the access to the museum is free of charge. Very impressive. We were very glad to luckily have stopped by.
