View a living museum within the only privately owned palace open to the public in town at Casa Rocca Piccola. Built in the 16th century for Don Pietro La Rocca, a knight of Malta, the home now acts as the ancestral gathering place of the 9th Marquis de Piro and his family. The home is still inhabited and hosts family get-togethers on holidays and other special occasions. Walk through its twelve rooms, including two dining rooms, a private family chapel, and a bedroom. Check out the archive room that contains family records and documents dating back to the 17th century. Take a guided tour to get a glimpse into the home's World War II history, when it protected over 100 people in its underground network of tunnels during the Nazi bombings. You will see many architectural splendors in Valletta just by walking in the street. But take the time to visit this house for an insight on the life of the nobles. Take the tour of course (I think it starts every hour) for 45mn. The garden is lovely. The rooms richly decorated. The bomb shelters are unbelievable!
House that has been in the same family for many generations. It survived the bombing of World War 2. The family has now opened it for tours that include the bomb shelter used during the war. The collection of art and treasures provide a look at the history of Malta. Well worth the visit.
