Housed in a former naval bakery, Malta Maritime Museum illustrates Malta's seafaring history with a large collection of interesting artifacts. View the largest Roman anchor in the world, the largest ship model belonging to the Order of St. John, the island's largest collection of cannons, a bust of Queen Victoria, and even the Napoleonic figurehead of the gun ship HMS Hibernia. Don't forget to view the actual boats themselves and wander through a large display of historical vessels including engines. Loved our visit to the museum. Lots of information with some really well thought out displays. Reasonable entry fee too. Do get the impression it's a work in progress as only the first floor was accessible. Could also do with a little more info on the building itself as it was a bakery to the navy. Leave a good 2-3 hours for a visit.

Decent collection, I especially appreciated the carrack, a very imposing early Knights heavy ship. The museum could benefit from more in-depth explanations, for example which campaigns did the Knights undertake, why some ship designs were more effective than others, and life onboard the ships. I was also puzzled by a "cut-out" model which wasn't cut out at all, or perhaps it was in closed position?
