Mount Tsukuba, Tsukuba

#1 of 52 in Things to do in Tsukuba
Must see · Mountain · Nature / Park
Hike up Mount Tsukuba and marvel at the views. The mountain features two peaks, Nyotai and Nantai, both reaching a height of 870 m (2,854 ft). Uniquely, the mountain's landscape consists of granite and gabbro, thus its nickname, the "Purple Mountain." One of the oldest shrines in the country sits on the mountainside, housing a deity of harmony and matchmaking for married couples. Expect a moderately challenging climb; alternatively, hop on the cable car that connects the shrine to the peak of Nantai. Take a break at the rotating restaurant, featuring far-reaching views of open fields and the city. To visit Mount Tsukuba and other attractions in Tsukuba, use our Tsukuba attractions planning tool.
