Flowing through the capital city, Sumida River offers a long waterfront with many sights. Enjoy a walk along the embankments under cherry trees and terraces, from where you can observe the skyline featuring the Tokyo Skytree and Asahi Beer buildings. You can rent a bike near Sumida Park, or start at Senso-ji shrine. The banks serve as a popular spot for local, who gather to drink, sing, or eat under the cherry trees. You can embark on a boat cruise, starting at Asakusa and ending at the Rainbow Bridge and Odaiba Island, enjoying sweeping views of Tokyo Bay along the way. Sumida River reviews
A very nice walkway on the Sunisa riverside. During the day you’ll see families, joggers, friends walking while at night time it turns to a romantic spot for an evening walk. more »
Since we stayed nearby in Asakusa, we walked to Sumida river banks. Saw cherry blossoms, but not peak yet. Pleasant and cool to walk along the river banks. more »
One of the best cruises during sunset.
Offers Beautiful Night View The Sumida River flows through Tokyo for about 17 miles, branching from the Arakawa River at Iwabuchi and continuing to Tokyo Bay. I have seen sections that run from Asakusa to the Bay and really like the stretch with a view of the Tokyo Sky Tree at night. This tower's lights and those of the nearby skyscrapers provide a magical sight. But photo ops abound both day and night. Sightseeing boats with commentary ply the water, giving another perspective of Tokyo. There are also water buses and dinner cruises. The river flows under 26 bridges so a boat also gives a look at these spans from other vantage points. Walkways along the river offer benches and lookouts. Coming to the water is a pleasant way to escape the hectic city for a while.
