Set in a French-style art deco building built as a prince’s residence, Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum offers a glimpse of Japan in the 1930s. With limited gallery space, you can enjoy small seasonal exhibitions, usually of decorative arts, in a relaxed atmosphere and a distinctive setting. Each room features an original art nouveau aesthetic, a fusion of modern French and Japanese architecture and interior design. Grab a coffee at the onsite cafe, which offers a view of the well-maintained garden designed in the same style. • LOVED this museum!!! what a brilliant find this place was. Very interesting house in stunning gardens which offered a welcome respite to hectic (but great) Tokyo. Interesting things on display and definitely worth the modest entry price which is similar to most museums in Tokyo. It's really worth spending a few hours here and going you out of your way to get here. Gorgeous friendly staff two and two restaurant cafes on site.
  • Amazing (and weirdly eclectic, not pure art deco) architecture, only downside is no picture taking, and no good book or large pictures available in the shop instead, a pity! The atmosphere is a bit depressing with all the guards in every corner, but still worth it to see interesting art, the garden and the house itself. Also lovers of Lalique glass will appreciate the interesting details everywhere.
