Nanzoin, Sasaguri-machi

Nanzo-in (南蔵院) is a Shingon sect Buddhist temple in Sasaguri, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. It is notable for its bronze statue of a reclining Buddha, said to be the largest bronze statue in the world.

  • In my opinion the best place to visit in Fukuoka area. Train ride is not too far - 30/min. No details upon arrival - there are some maps guides boards - but you can see the giant status immediate on.....  more »

  • Such an incredible thing to see. It was breathtaking. I would recommend going around sunset. You’ll get some great pictures. Just keep in mind the gift shop looking area will close so do that first.
  • This was the best part of the day. The view from the train drastically changes before the last station We ended being there at like 3.30 in the evening.It gets greener and serene. The temple itself is fabulous with shrines in every corner. The reclining Buddha itself is great, but the atmosphere and the other shrines makes it better. I recommend a walk to all the other shrines (one is a cave) and then to the Buddha.
