Really nice location for a family day. Tons of interesting things to do and activities to join. Some activities are on a time schedule so it’s important to plan ahead to get the most out of your visit. I went on a weekday and it was fairly busy but I could see it be extremely busy/crowded on the weekends and/or holidays. Some of the more popular activities have time tickets to prevent overcrowding, this is also something to keep in mind when planning your trip.
Love the museum! A tad far as my family chose to walk from the train station instead of taking the electric tram. Though my Japanese isn't good enough for me to understand the exhibit, the displays of the various trains in service in the past is impressive. Coupled with cute bento boxes shaped like trains or in train themed packaging, it's a nice place to spend half a day browsing. Definitely a place to spend money on train themed items from souvenirs, books and train models. Suitable for families with kids that are wowed by trains as they have some kiddie rides.
