Cross the ocean on Irabu Ohashi, a bridge connecting the islands of Miyako and Irabu. Measuring 3,540 m (11,610 ft), the structure stands as one of the longest bridges in the world, and its island-hopping span has been impressively engineered, with construction starting in 2006 and taking nine years to complete. More convenient for locals than the ferries that used to cross the divide between the islands, the bridge still allows tourists to soak in the views at a pleasant pace. Speed limits on the bridge remain restricted, making it easier to admire the ocean, islands, and the bridge itself without holding up traffic. A viewing platform in the center provides a good place to snap some photos. A visit to Irabu Ohashi represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Miyakojima trip builder app to plot your vacation.

like a beatles song, but made of concrete and steel. Undulating over the aquamarine waters below. Trafficked by leadfooted tourii and lethargic locals as well. It gets you from point A to point B...

I did cross the bridge on a bicycle and then looped Irabu island which has many lovely little deserted beaches! It was a lovely and phisically demanding day but all worth it and I will treasure it for the rest of my life! After I looped the island I found this little ice cream next to the bridge before I crossed it back, and ask the lady if they had any beer. She told me she didn't sell beer there but gave me one she had. It was a very cool gesture and much needed one as I was super thirsty after hours of biking under the sun. Everywhere very hot and very humid. Don't forget your sunscreen. Enjoy it to the MAX!
