  We were shown the building by a volunteer Japanese guide with some basic English, enough to name the purposes of the rooms. This did add to our appreciation of the building. The grounds are gorgeous.....  more »

  The ‘Shiro shitsu’(document room) to the right after entering the building has very good English translation so I recommend visiting that room first to learn the background history before walking...  more »

  The most famous Confucian school during the Edo period, this is where the conservative scholars and samurais promoted the doctrine of "sonnō jyōi" which means to respect the emperor and kick out the "barbarians"...The political and philosophical doctrines of the school were heavily influenced by a Chinese confucianism scholar named Zhu Zhiyu or Zhu Shunshui who fled from China after the Manchu conquest of China. The school is well preserved, the old ladies who worked there were helpful. But I wouldn't recommend this place unless you are interested in the history of Bakumatsu.

  鹿島神社、孔子廟、弘道館を囲むように、梅林が広がっています。 あまり人気はないものの、歴史と風情がある一画です。 梅はもちろんのこと、桜も美しいです。

  Plum spreads around the Kashima shrine, Confucius Temple, Kodokan. It is a 1 screen but not so popular, but the history and atmosphere. Plum, cherry blossoms are beautiful.
