Step back to early 20th-century Japan at Ishibe Alley, a historic cobblestone street that has maintained a traditional atmosphere from the Taisho period (1912-1926). Original wooden houses line the street, where many operate as teahouses, restaurants, and salons. As you walk you can hear the muffled interaction of people through the shoji screens. Due to its old-fashioned aesthetic, it has become a popular destination for filming in movies. At night, numerous lanterns elegantly illuminate the street. We were wandering around the Kodaiji temple area without realising that we were close to the Ishibe Alley. It was fairly crowded on the Saturday but the good weather and colourful autumn leaves kept.... more »

A classical Japanese road with quiet, peaceful atmosphere. Worth visiting! It is also a different but wonderful experience to take a stroll there during the night!

The streets of gion are very picturesque There are lots of roads in between..zig-zagging It's not possible to explore it all in 1 day, you can only select a route out of it and that itself already consumed half of your day If you happen to stumble the dried fruit seller below, make sure to buy it from him since he is selling it cheaper than those in market...Japanese dried fruit are to die for Been waiting to restock my Japanese dried fruit since my last trip to Tokyo
