Lake Ikeda, Ibusuki

#3 of 10 in Parks in Ibusuki
Water Body · Nature / Park
Visit Lake Ikeda and see if you can spot the aquatic monster "Issie," reported to dwell in the depths of this caldera. The largest on the island, the lake has a surface area of 11 sq km (4.2 sq mi), and plays home to some sizeable eels. Swim in the temperate waters, enjoy the mountain scenery, and snap pictures of the smiling statue of the lake's mythical resident. A few restaurants offer extensive menus and tanks with examples of the large eels on display. During the months of February to March, the areas surrounding the lake burst with yellow rape flowers in full bloom, creating a very picturesque view.
