Beautiful castle nearly 400 years old with unique gables. The stairs of the Tenshu was quite steep and when I visited on Sunday they were packed. I loved the view of Lake Biwa from the castle. more »

Great example of one of the remaining 12 original castles in Japan. Between the castle and associated buildings and the gardens you can easily spend 3-4 hours here. Lots of uneven stairs and paths to climb so you need to be able to move OK.

A designated national treasure & one of key castles in Japan. It’s a well preserved wooden superstructure, but extremely steep to climb the stairs inside the main castle tower. It’s fairly well maintained, gorgeous & yet peaceful to walk around inside. It’s a good place to have a panoramic city view & watch the sunset.
