A complex of three temples dedicated the goddess of knowledge, Enoshima Shrine dates back to the 5th century and remains one of the area's major Shinto sites. You'll have to climb steep stairs to reach the shrines, so wearing comfortable shoes is advised. The view from the top makes the uphill trek worthwhile--take a moment to soak in the views of the sea and contemplate the long history of this sacred place. Enoshima Shrine Reviews
You may choose to walk by stairs or go for an escalator (need to pay) for visiting. I would recommend to walk by stairs. The shrine is beautiful and you can see the bay, island of Enoshima when you... more »
When we went to this Shrine it was a very hot and humid day, but we made it up slowly and the views that you get in between are breathtaking! It's a beautiful shrine with a lot of good places to take.... more »
Beautiful temple in the island of Enoshima. There are many shops before before the temple. There are many steps to go up the temple, so be ready. You can go up beyond the temple (More steps, so be ready!! Or pay 130 yen to use each escalator) to go to the "candle tower" and go view the edge of the island. You'll have to go down the steps (and climb back up to go back!) on the opposite site to go to the edge of the island (no escalator this time!!) and to go to the cave.
One of my recommended sightseeing places. It’s beautiful to see. Be prepared for the walking exercise to the lighthouse observation. People who can’t handle the walk can also choose the escalator service, but there is a fee for it.
