Wander between ponds and islands connected by elegant stone bridges at Ohori Park, once the site of a moat for a nearby castle whose ruins still lay nearby. Also within walking distance, Fukuoka Art Museum sits at the park's southeast corner. Young families frequent the serene park, where children can explore a number of playgrounds and befriend the local animal life, which includes turtles and birds. Buy feed for the ducks and fish at a kiosk near the river. Very relaxed and extensive local park with a particularly lovely zen garden (for which overseas tourists are offered a small discount on the inexpensive admission fee). It's a lovely way to see a more local side to a Japanese city as families and local residents clearly use it extensively, but without it ever feeling overcrowded. There's also a small stadium (where we saw a local American football team playing a Sunday game), as well as the ruins of old Fukuoka Castle. We didn't visit it, but the Fukuoka Art Museum is also located in the park, between the zen garden and the castle ruins.
Gorgeous serene park to wander around. Very quiet and peaceful. The water reflected the city and clouds. Spent 2 hours walking around, sitting, enjoying the scenery and runners.
